Elizabethan Era Food
in the Elizabethan era the food you ate depended on you social class and status. Of course wealthier people would be eating nicer meals and non wealthy people would be eating not as nice meals. Although this stereotype is most often true, that's not the case in the Elizabethan Era. A lot of meals enjoyed by rich people lacked vitamins and fiber, while the poor and lower class enjoyed meals with more fiber and vitamins. This may seem weird to you but many wealth people went for the dirty teeth look. This may seem hysterical to some but this was a "Fundamental Fashion" of the upper class. This look was achieved by the eating of high sugar foods. This was a status-qua if you will. It let people know that you were rich and could afford expensive foods.
The lower class eats about a 1/2 a pound of bread a day, 1 pint of beer, 1 pint of porridge, and a 1/2 a pound of meat. The upper class/ rich beef, mutton, veal, lamb, kid, pork, cony, capon, pig, and also some portion of the red or fallow deer, also a great variety of fish and wild fowl.
